Intro
Okay, here we go for a clean install of Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10.
Again, a dualboot with WinXP.
First, we insert the Ubuntu CD.
The CD gave the 'start'screen (where you can choose "install ubuntu", "check cd for errors", etc).
Whatever option I chose, it didn't do anything...
I tried a md5sum-check on the iso: it was fine. I burned with Brasero to cd-rw: the problen was still the same. I burned to the same cd with Gnomebaker: still the same problem.
I took a 2nd cd-rw and burned under Windows with Nero: the 'dataverification' step failed (read errors on multiple sectors).
I tried on a different computer with Nero: still an inbootable cd.
I tried again under Ubuntu. After the cd-rw was written, I did:
It should print out "OK" for al files on the cd. I got numerous 'input/output errors'.
Then I tried right-clicking the .iso and 'burn to cd'. After the cd-rw was written, I tried the above routine in the terminal again.
I only got a few errors now. I tried the whole thing again (right-click the iso, burn to cd, md5sum the files on cd). I kept doing this, until I unexpectedly got an "OK" for all files!
I tried booting that cd-rw (the one I have been burning and erasing like 10 times), and it booted fine. I installed Ubuntu 8.10 from that cd, and everything went fine !!
A nice LiveCD will be booted.
+ LiveCD recognizes all of the hardware, and resolution of 1400*1050 was set immediately.
- stupid graphical bootup. You have NO idea wether it is loading or freezing up.

Installation
When the LiveCD is booted, you can use some of the functions of Ubuntu to see of you like them or not.
Screenresolution was 1400*1050 !.
Just dubbleclick the "Installation" logo on the desktop.
A graphical installer !
Fill out a few questions (timezone, keyboard layout,...), and then the (graphic improved) disk partitioning .
TIP: choose the 'manual disk partitioning' !

1400*1050 resolution
1400*1050 works OUT OF THE BOX !! (like in Ubuntu 8.04).
Broadcom 10/100 Ethernet Card
Just works.
Intel Pro/Wireless 802.11b
Just works.
The network manager was updated, it should be able to handle more connections (wired, wireless, vpn,..).
Keyboard and USB-mouse (Logitech)
Just works.
Touchpad
Just works.
Sound
Just works.
PulseAudio manages all the sound. No problems so far...
Harddisks (mounting)
In the graphical setup, I could 'link' my windows partition to something like ' /mnt/win '.
Not tested
* Suspend to disk/ram
* Hibernate
* Infrared (needs kernel module?)
Cardreader
* works with memorycard of digital camera
CD-burner
GnomeBaker/Brasero/the Gnome cd-writer should do the trick.
Webcam (Logitech QuickCam Zoom)
YeeY, this works out-of-the-box :-)
