Intro
Okay, here we go for a clean install of Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 9.04.
Again, a dualboot with WinXP.
First, we insert the Ubuntu CD.
The CD gave the 'start'screen (where you can choose "install ubuntu", "check cd for errors", etc).
Whatever option I chose, it didn't do anything...
I tried a md5sum-check on the iso: it was fine. I've learned from my previous endeavours with Ibex, so I burned directly
with Nautilus (right-click the .iso and 'burn to disc') at 4x speed.
After the cd-rw was written, I did:
It should print out "OK" for al files on the cd. I got numerous 'input/output errors'.
My cd-burner is still good, because I can write music to the same cd-RW for use in my car.
So it HAS to be something with Ubuntu...
I went to pendrivelinux.com
and installed the .iso to my USB-stick USING WINDOWS (can you smell the irony...?).
I rebooted from the USB-stick, and installed Ubuntu 9.04 from the 'live USB-stick' instead of the 'live cd'...
A nice LiveCD USB-stick will be booted.
+ LiveUSB recognizes all of the hardware, and resolution of 1400*1050 was set immediately.
- stupid graphical bootup. You have NO idea wether it is loading or freezing up.

Installation
When the LiveUSB is booted, you can use some of the functions of Ubuntu to see of you like them or not.
Screenresolution was 1400*1050 !.
Just dubbleclick the "Installation" logo on the desktop.
A graphical installer !
Fill out a few questions (timezone, keyboard layout,...), and then the (graphic improved) disk partitioning .
TIP: choose the 'manual disk partitioning' !

ext3 or ext4?
see the customization-page.
1400*1050 resolution
1400*1050 works OUT OF THE BOX !! (like in Ubuntu 8.04).
Broadcom 10/100 Ethernet Card
Just works.
Intel Pro/Wireless 802.11b
Just works.
The network manager was updated, it should be able to handle more connections (wired, wireless, vpn,..).
Keyboard and USB-mouse (Logitech)
Just works.
Touchpad
Just works. Seems a bit extra-sensitive...
Sound
Just works.
PulseAudio manages all the sound. No problems so far...
Harddisks (mounting)
In the graphical setup, I could 'link' my windows partition to something like ' /mnt/win '.
Not tested
* Suspend to disk/ram
* Hibernate
* Infrared (needs kernel module?)
Cardreader
* works with memorycard of digital camera
CD-burner
GnomeBaker/Brasero/the Gnome cd-writer should do the trick.
Webcam (Logitech QuickCam Zoom)
YeeY, this works out-of-the-box :-)
